About products and suppliers

A tractor is a heavy-duty traction vehicle used in hauling or carrying materials and labor-intensive agricultural tasks. Steam-powered tractors were first used in the early 19th century to support farm work.

The power requirements for standard tractors

As a piece of machinery, a tractor is built with low speed and high pulling power. The modern farm tractor is powered by a combustion engine that runs on gasoline, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or diesel. In terms of horsepower (hp), a tractor can range from 15hp to 120hp. Such an amount of engine power is necessary to be able to haul heavy cargo from a tractor-trailer or to pull agricultural tractor attachments like a plow across a field. A two-wheel drive tractor is useful in dry conditions and has simple mechanical parts. In contrast, a four-wheel drive tractor can operate in muddy environments and is known for its efficiency.

Applications of a tractor

Even with a single operator, a tractor can cover a broad area to save time, effort, and resources. A compact tractor is used in the upkeep of gardens and landscaping. Lawn tractors are essential to the maintenance of golf courses and sports turf. Mid-sized utility tractors perform routines such as hauling hay and cargo. Larger tractors have the power to efficiently pull heavy farm tractor attachments in commercial and agricultural operations. A small tractor comes with a front loader and a backhoe for digging trenches for irrigation or clearing obstacles. Smaller two-wheel tractors are available to serve the needs of community farmers. They include the walking tractor, which is manually pushed by the operator to till the field in preparation for cultivation. A mini- or mid-sized electric tractor is also finding its way into commercial settings. Compared to tractors powered by regular combustion engines, electric tractors are eco-friendly machines that require minimum maintenance work.
