Subwoofers are speakers that produce very low sound frequencies, popularly known as bass. What are the types of subwoofers?

There are eight types of subwoofers available for smooth sound production. The powered subwoofer, also termed an active subwoofer, comes with an inbuilt power source, speaker, and amplifier. They are suitable for smaller spaces and not as outdoor subwoofers. Passive subwoofers use an external power source and amplifier. They are the best choice for outdoor or large room situation that needs big subwoofers. Ported subwoofers have holes or vents called ports. The ports allow air escape which in turn improves bass quality. The sealed cabinet subwoofer doesn’t have a hole and produces tighter bass sounds. Bandpass subwoofer speakers provide different bands with different frequency ranges. So, it allows you to select the level of bass. Front and down firing subwoofers are based on the speaker position. Front-firing subwoofers have their speaker facing forward, while down-firing subwoofers have their speakers facing downward. Horn-loaded subwoofer speakers give farther and more directional bass sounds. They do this with the help of their longhorn speakers. Passive radiator subwoofers have dual radiators, contributing more frequencies to the subwoofer.
