Soccer socks are an inevitable part of a soccer player’s kit, providing much-needed protection to their foot and legs while chasing the ball on the field. Together with a pair of professional cleats, soccer socks enable the athlete to perform with great footwork that can even change the outcome of a game. It should provide comfort all the while tailored to fit those feet that constantly run, jump and kick.

Why are soccer socks important?

Soccer socks are sports socks designed to meet the specific needs of an athlete who is always on the move. Primarily, it offers cushioning between the foot and the flat soles of the cleats. It also ensures the snug fit of cleats, which is crucial for a player’s agility. Socks with textured outer soles offer good grip and anti-slip benefits. Ankle support without blisters and Achilles protection is provided by custom soccer socks for professional players. Soccer socks hold the shin guards in place and avoid injuries. They are also worn to absorb the sweat and moisture from constant running and to keep the feet warm. Sports compression socks are also available to help with blood circulation to the legs and reduce muscle fatigue.

Materials of soccer socks

Socks worn by football players are also subjected to tremendous wear and tear due to the vigorous nature of the sport. Also, the breathability of the fabric and how it feels on the skin matter during prolonged use in a match. And hence, the fabric or the material used to make a football sock becomes a deciding factor. Nylon, famous for its durability and resistance, also absorbs water. Polyester socks have better breathability and can also handle wear and tear. Spandex socks withstand tension while also retaining the original shape. Olefin, polyamide and profilen are other synthetic fibres used to make soccer socks for increased comfort.

Types of soccer socks

Different types of football socks in varying lengths are available to suit the athlete’s requirements. Knee-high football socks are common among professional football players as they prevent bruising, help with compression for good circulation, absorb moisture and keep feet and legs dry. Crew soccer socks reach just halfway up the calf and do not cover the shin guard. These are ideally used for practice sessions. Shin guard socks feature shin guards inside them and are almost the same in length as knee-high socks. This eliminates the need to wear separate shin guards under socks. Low-cut socks reach just above the ankle and do not offer much protection to the legs.
