About products and suppliers

Sometimes, small adjustments can make the biggest difference. A sealant tape certainly follows the same principle, being applicable to a variety of circumstances, be it sealing cracks, covering small holes, or providing a better grip to pipe threads.

Sealant tape for plumbing

In essence, plumbing involves using pipes, joints, valves, seals, and many other tools to connect different places and allow for a secure, controlled flow of liquids and gasses. To do this, different types of fittings are used, each having its own attachment method, with one of the most popular one being the threaded adapter. However, liquids, by their very nature, are able to find their way through every nook and cranny of whatever they come in contact with. This can lead to leakages, loss of performance, and, sometimes, the complete detachment of the joints. A plumber's tape is used to avoid such problems and provide a stronger, tighter grip for each connector.

Most of these tapes are made out of polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as Teflon, or PTFE, a type of polymer that incorporates fluor atoms in its molecular structure. Unlike normal tapes used for quick repairs, PTFE Teflon tapes have a non-stick surface, which means that neither of the tapes’ faces will adhere to the pipes and connectors, making it much easier to do maintenance. This allows them to work as both lubricants, allowing for quick disassembly of the joints, and sealants, preventing leakages and securing the connection. The Teflon tape also conforms to the threaded pattern of connectors without bundling up into chunks or blocking the thread. Furthermore, the material is non-flammable and has a great resistance to the elements.

Sealant tape for quick repairs

Plumbing aside, there are many other uses for sealant tape. A caulk strip, for example, is a common household accessory, being used in sinks, toilets, and any other fixtures that have gaps in which water may accumulate. For quick roof repairs, the butyl sealant tape is a staple, offering a multilayered structure of butyl rubber adhesives and an aluminum foil surface. On the same note, whenever rain and moisture enter the picture, windows are one of the first lines of defense for indoor environments. A window sealing tape is capable of filling minor gaps in the window’s stool, sash, rail, and general frame to prevent water from passing through.
