Hydroxypropy Methyl Cellulose Ether (HPMC) is  widely used as a thickener, stabilizer and water retaining agent for building materials. It provides water retention and workability for mortars, it can improve adhesion, reduce skinning and increase open time.HPMC also has thickening ability, low ash content, PH stability, water retention, excellent film forming, and extensive enzyme resistance, dispersion and so on.
HPMC is a highly pure cotton cellulose as raw material, under alkaline conditions by special etherification and preparation.White or whitish powder.HPMC decreases with the decrease of methoxide content, increase of gel point, decrease of water solubility and decrease of surface activity. HPMC has thickening ability, salt resistance, low ash powder, pH stability, water retention, dimensional stability, excellent film forming, and a wide range of enzyme resistance, dispersion and adhesion.


Characters:
HPMC is easily dissolved in cold water and a little hard in hot water. But its gelation temperature in hot water is abviously higher than cold water.
The viscosity of HPMC is related to its molecular weight. The bigger the molecular weight, the higher the viscosity. The temperature also influences the viscosity. The viscosity will be lower with the rise of temperature.

Application
Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose Ether(HPMC) is mainly used in the dry building materials from the construction industry, including the water-resistant putty powder, putty paste, steel putty, paint glue, thermal insulation mortar and so on. It has a good water retention effect, and it is easy to be constructed with a good luminosity, besides, the viscosity and gel time can be customized according to the requirement of customers.

Better workability: lubricity and plasticity of plaster is ensured, mortar can be applied easier and quicker. Good water retention: prevention of fluid loss to the substrates, the appropriate water content is kept in mixture which guarantees longer concreting time. Increased water demand: increased open time, expanded spry area and more economical formulation. Easier spreading and improved sagging resistance due to improved consistency. Wall putty Water retention: maximized water content in slurry. Anti-sagging: when spreading a thicker coat corrugation can be avoided. Increased mortar yield: depending on the weight of the dry mixture and appropriate formulation ,HPMC can increase the mortar volume. Exterior Insulation and Finish System ( EIFS ) Improved adhesion. Good wetting ability for EPS board and substrate. Reduced air entrancement and water uptake. Self-leveling Mortar Protection from water exudation and material sedimentation.
