Seamless metal calcium wire is a kind of composite steel tube wire which is formed by low carbon steel band and covered with metal calcium wire.It is an alternative to the traditional "bite" core cord.It can be used to add calcium which is light weight, low boiling point, easy to oxidize and has little solubility in the molten steel, which is more economical and effective than other methods.

In the cast iron production, with seamless metal calcium core wire desulphurization, spheroidization and gestation foundry added, widening faster and faster.Take Germany, which was the first country to develop the production of ductile iron by using the technique of seamless metallic calcium clad coring. At the end of 1989, only one foundry in Germany chose the method of seamless metallic calcium clad coring to produce ductile iron.High quality products produced with low cost are the policy sought by steel mills and foundries in the world.The practice including our country has proved that the core wire skill is the most simple and agile skill method in many aspects of molten steel and iron treatment

1. steelmaking deoxygenation. It is made of three parts outer steel tube, middle coating,the inner core which is solid metallic calcium (pure calcium) wire.
2.The utility model provides seamless solid metal calcium packet, core wires can reduce the vapor pressure of calcium metal and gasification rate, increase the seamless solid metal conductor inserted depth of steel liquid calcium package and reduce the boiling liquid steel, reduce the time of the metal calcium’s absorbtion by the molten steel.

3.Calcium not only overcomes the existing joint solid package conductor inserted steel liquid boiling phenomenon, but also reduce the noneffective phenomenon of feeding cored wire because of calcium powder package conductor hollow or core powder uneven weight . Avoid the harmful elements (S, P, C, Si)in calcium powder wire, thus greatly improve the yield and stability of metal calcium.It has the advantages of high tensile strength, good toughness and not easily to break.The core wire is compact and tightly wrapped, which can be stored for a longer time and can guarantee the use effect.

CaSi is universal deoxidizing, desulphurising and Inclusion modifying agent used for manufacture every kind of steel as killed plain carbon steel, low alloy steel, high grade alloyed steel, stainless steel etc. (except low Si steel, where CaFe & CaFeAl Cored wire is used to get same effect). In combination with aluminium (FeAl / Al wire), it is used in cases where high demands are made on the degree of purity and the surface quality of steel. The addition of Calcium, and close control over the degree of addition, is an important step in the steelmaking process. There are various way to add calcium into steel melt. Usually calcium silicide lumps added into bottom of the ladle and steel melt (temperature 1500 N 1600°C) is poured into the ladle or Calcium silicide powder can be added by powder injection method through lance. But it’s very costly and outdated process. In ladle addition of Calcium silicide lumps, the recovery of Ca is very low. Due to lower density (2.5gm/cc) of CaSi lumps its floats at the surface of melt and losses in oxidation and slag. Usually the recovery of Ca is only less than 10%. Whereas in cored wire Injection system the recovery of calcium is 15 – 30% with precise control of composition. In CaSi cored wire, CaSi is encapsulated in steel sheath, when injected into steel it can go in depth of steel melt .

1.As During solidication sulphur is selectively deposed at grain boundaries in forms of various sulphides and their solution (especially type II & III) and causes heterogeneity of mechanical properties of final products.
2.Calcium change the sulphur release mechanism in such a way that the sulphur is bound to oxide or aluminate particles and not deposed as sulphide inclusions at grain boundaries during the steel solidication. see microstructure - Alumina inclusions form calcium aluminates that can be as cores for precipitating “oxysulphide” inclusions.
3.The outer layer contains calcium sulphide (or calcium sulphide with little manganese) when sulphur content is low or calcium manganese sulphide when sulphur content is higher. The mechanism and stage of formation of the oxysulphides is not fully known, but the favourable infuence of these complex inclusions for many products is well known i.e. improving the machine ability of hardening and tempering as well as casehardening steels.
4.The formation of oxide layer on the tool is optimized and results in longer tool life and in possibility to use higher cutting speeds. Better surface quality of the product is also attained. In addition, good cast ability is an important application of Ca-treatment.
5.For some products, however, the Ca-treatment and hence modification of inclusions must be avoided. For instance, well deformable silicate type inclusions are desirable for wire materials and undeformable inclusions should be avoided. In general, the properties of final products must be thoroughly considered when choosing the proper ladle treatment.
