Brian and Suellen Mullany and their partners purchased the Grove Estate Vineyard in 1989 with the aim of producing premium cool climate wine grapes, on its volcanic red soils situated at 550m above sea level. The Grove Estate property already had a long history of involvement with the wine and grape growing industry in the Hilltops Region as vines were originally planted on the property back in 1886.
Around the same time in 1870 Brian's Great Great Grandfather had just arrived from Switzerland and began planting Vines in The Yarra Valley for Charles Joseph Latrobe.
Since 1989, over 100 hectares of vines have been planted across two distinctly different vineyards and produce the varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Primitivo, Barbera, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Semillon & Nebbiolo.
Over the years our winemaking team has developed and some changes have occurred. Since the 2003 vintage Tim Kirk of Clonakilla the Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2016 has being in charge of making our prestigious Shiraz. When Tim came on board and started offering his help a much stronger commitment to wines that portrayed the feel of the cool climate and deep red soils of the Hilltops area were strived for. We have been able to obtain this by purchasing only the best French wine barrels with open fermentation tanks for the red wines.
One could be mistaken for thinking Grove Estate was in the heart of Coonawarra with it's vivid red soil. It's in fact nestled in the emerging region of Hilltops in NSW and with the guidance of Canberra guru, Tim Kirk, this great Cabernet shows flavours and aromas of liquorice, blackberry and rich cassis.
Grown on our vineyards in Young at an altitude of 550 Meters. The rich red soil produces magnificent dry land Cabernet. Drink now or cellar for many years. Extremely low yielding crops of less than 5 Tonne per hectare make this a rare wine of exceptional quality
