Chemical vapor deposition Zinc Sulfide(CVD ZnS) is an excellent infrared optical transmitting material, which can be widely used as infrared windows, domes and optical elements. There are two kinds of CVD ZnS can be made: standard ZnS and multispectral ZnS.

The standard ZnS shows high transmission and homogeneity of refractive index in 8-12um band. Also its high strength high hardness and anti-thermo-shock make standard ZnS suitable for severe environment. Standard ZnS is an excellent windows and domes material for long-wave infrared imaging system due to its high transmission, good optical uniformity, high strength.

Mulispectral ZnS is made from Standard ZnS by a post-deposition hot isostatic process. This process spreads the transmission band to visible(o.4-12um). Multispectral ZnS showing excellent transmission across the visible to long-wave infrared waveband, with very low scatter and absorption, is well-suited for the applications that require a single aperture for beam path for several wavebands. It is becoming the preferred materials of muli-spectral opltical windows.

Due to its excellent transmission in the visible thru infrared wavebands, a multispectral (MS) ZnS lens is the ideal choice for systems utilizing various sensors such as visible, NIR, SWIR, MWIR or LWIR.

At the same time, because of its good permeability in the visible infrared wave band range and the resistance to extreme
conditions, the multi-spectral zinc sulfide window materials may be used for sensors and guiding systems and external window materials in aviation applications.
