Q7:Why do some smart lock need gateway?

And the power consumption is very low. Usually, the battery is replaced once every 12-15 months.  
 
Q8:Is it better to connect directly to WiFi?
A:We know that if the product is directly connected to WiFi, the battery power consumption will be very fast for few pcs alkaline batteries . However, in order to meet the needs of customers, we have built-in WiFi module. When the system is not in use, it belongs to the silent state. If you want to remote control or data synchronization, you need to wake up the panel of the intelligent lock, then you can carry out remote control.
